Why: Paul Haynes, a local Mount Laurel man, needs assistance to overcome the obstacles he faces as the paralyzed survivor of a tragic accident.
In 2009, on an otherwise pleasant day on the shores of Ocean City, NJ, Paul was swept off his feet by violent waves and fell head-first onto the ocean floor. One of his first realizations at the time was that he could not feel his body – a sensation, he says, that is indescribable.
The hours and days that followed were full of uncertainty and angst. Two years later, Paul, with his wife, Jeanne, by his side, faces a series of never-ending challenges, but has the ever-lasting support of loving family and friends. Financially, however, the Haynes family struggles to keep up with the costs of accommodating Paul's unexpected lifestyle.
Most recently, Paul needed a new wheelchair to replace one that caused a dangerous curvature in his spine, similar to that of a Scoliosis patient. Now that he has a suitable wheelchair, the Haynes' van and its wheelchair lift do not function properly. The new wheelchair is larger than the lift's specifications, so the Haynes' need to replace the lift to be able to transport Paul safely.
100% of the event's proceeds will go toward purchasing a new lift for Paul's van – one that makes him comfortable and transports him safely. As the Event Sponsor, Miles Technologies will cover all expenses.
